Mossadeck Bally is a distinguished Malian entrepreneur born on August 27, 1961 in Niamey, Niger, to parents with roots in Mali and a strong tradition of trade. After completing his early education in Niger and Mali, he studied abroad, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of San Francisco in the United States.
After his studies, Mr. Bally spent about ten years working in his family’s trading business with his brother. During that time, he became aware of the low quality of hotel accommodations in Mali, especially as noticed by business partners and suppliers. This gap sparked his vision to build better hospitality options in West Africa. In 1994, he founded the Société Malienne de Promotion Hôtelière (SMPH) and acquired the Grand Hôtel de Bamako during Mali’s privatization programs.
He went on to build and manage other hotels in Bamako including Salam Hotel and took over management of Hotel Nord Sud. In 2005, he officially branded his hotel holdings as Azalaï Hotels Group, and since then has led its expansion across multiple West African countries including Burkina Faso, Benin, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, with ongoing projects in places such as Conakry, Niamey, and Douala. Under his leadership, Azalaï Hotels Group has grown to employ several hundred people directly (estimates ~700) and thousands more indirectly, contributing significantly to job creation, local investment, and raising hospitality standards in the region.
